Brigadier-General Carpentier

Commander 2nd Canadian Division and Joint Task Force (East)

Brigadier-General Gervais Carpentier enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as a student at the Royal Military College Saint-Jean and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1992. He started his career with the Royal 22e Régiment in Québec and then continued as an instructor at the Infantry School in Gagetown, NB. He has held a number of command positions, in particular commanding the 3 Battalion Parachute Company; a Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) attack squadron; 2 Battalion Royal 22e Régiment; and was just recently Commandant of the Royal Military College Saint-Jean.

Over the course of his career, BGen Carpentier has held various staff positions, including Chief of Staff at 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in Valcartier, Project Director with CANSOFCOM’s Operational Requirements Directorate in Ottawa and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander of NATO’s Joint Force Command in Naples, Italy.

BGen Carpentier has a Master’s in Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. He has also completed the Joint Command and Staff Program and the National Security Program at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto. He has participated in expeditionary missions in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Haiti, and two missions in Afghanistan.

BGen Carpentier and his wife are the proud parents of two children.

Brigadier-General Carpentier promoted to his current rank in August 2019 and assumed command of Commander 2nd Canadian Division and Joint Task Force (East) on 15 August 2019.
