Brigadier-General Errington joined the Canadian Forces in 1990 out of Courtenay BC and was subsequently commissioned into the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI).

His major postings have included 2 PPCLI in Winnipeg, the Canadian Airborne Regiment (CAR) in Petawawa, 3 PPCLI in Edmonton and Dwyer Hill Training Center (DHTC) in Ottawa.

BGen Errington’s training and educational background consist of infantry training in Gagetown in 1991, staff training in Kingston, a Bachelor’s degree by distance learning until completion at the University of Alberta in 2006, a Masters of Defence Studies in Toronto in 2007, completion of French language training in 2011 and a graduate of the National Security Program in Toronto in 2016.

BGen Errington’s command experience includes 2 years as a Rifle Platoon (Pl) Comd in 2 PPCLI followed by a year as Recce Pl Comd. He commanded an Airborne Pl in both the CAR, the PPCLI Parachute Company (Para Coy) before commanding Anti-Armour Pl. Colonel Errington enjoyed two excellent years as OC A Coy (para) in 3 PPCLI then another two years in the Operations Squadron at DHTC. He was then appointed as the Special Operations Task Force Commander in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2010-2011, earning the Meritorious service Medal. He took command of 3 PPCLI in June of 2012 and held the appointment until after the Regiments 100th Anniversary Ottawa Commemoration in September 2014. BGen Errington is very proud and humbled to have had the opportunity to command twice at the Pl, Coy and Unit levels between various Light, Airborne and Special force units.

BGen Errington’s staff experience in 3 PPCLI includes Assistant Adjutant (Adjt), Coy 2ic (Para) and Adjt. He worked in Land Force Western Area (LFWA) as G3 Domestic Operations, in 1st Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (1 CMBG) as G3 Operations, in Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command (CEFCOM) as Deputy J35 and DHTC as the Ops O/COS. Following Command of 3 PPCLI he was the G33 of the Canadian Army followed by the Director of Current Operations at the Strategic Joint Staff at NDHQ.

BGen Errington’s operational experience includes overseas deployments to Croatia in 1993 as a Pl Comd, to Bosnia in 1997 as Anti-Armour Pl Comd, and to Kandahar in 2010 as the Special Operations Task Force Commander. He has deployed to a wide variety of domestic operations, including fighting floods in Winnipeg and Medicine Hat and forest fires in BC, in addition to providing security for the G8 Summit in Kananaskis in 2002 and the Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.

BGen Errington has had some unique honours throughout his career, serving in the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace in 1998, leading the Canadian parachute contingent to Normandy in honour of the 70th anniversary of D Day and commanding 3 PPCLI during the 100th anniversary commemoration. He has also held the appointment of Director of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps since February 2016.

Brigadier-General Errington was appointed Chief of Staff Army Operations in July 2019.
