News Release / April 29, 2017 / Project number: e-nr-17-04-29-4esr-to-latvia

April 29, 2017 – Fredericton, NB – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Approximately 50 members of 4 Engineer Support Regiment (4 ESR) deployed to Latvia today for Operation REASSURANCE, the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) contribution to NATO assurance measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

The group of soldiers from 4 ESR’s Vertical Construction Squadron will be constructing a 500-person camp facility that will serve as a base of operations for the Battle Group that will arrive in the area of operations later this year. 4 ESR, based out of 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown, is the Canadian Army’s high readiness engineering unit that specializes in building and establishing facilities that support CAF operations in Canada and around the world.

“The team that we are sending to Latvia has the critical role of building a home and work place for an operational Battle Group. Having the facilities required to stage multi-national operations is a key component to operational success and I am confident that our construction squadron will build a camp that will suit all of the Canadian-led Battle Group’s needs.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Chris Cotton, Commanding Officer, 4 Engineer Support Regiment
