Seventeen-year-old Laura Chilson, from the Port Hardy Junior Canadian Ranger (JCR) Patrol, received a Commander’s Coin from Brigadier General K.L Woiden, OMM, CD, at an austere camp in Nanoose, B.C., on August 4, 2016.

The young woman, employed as a JCR Mentor, was recommended for the honour because, “her work was just exceptional,” said JCR Company Sergeant-Major, Warrant Officer Dan Hryhoryshen.  He added that everyone who worked with her was very impressed by her dedication during both the Basic and Advanced Enhanced Training Sessions held by the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group this summer.

Ms Chilson was very touched by the presentation, and said it had been a great experience for her. “I love meeting the kids and experiencing things with them,” she said, “they all have minds and they all experience things differently…this group of kids are the best, they are an amazing group that I care about so much.” She hopes to come back and work at the camps again next year.
