Army Programs

Canadian Army Renewal

Canadian Army (CA) Renewal is an internal program the Army is undertaking to reduce inefficiencies and ensure that we are providing Canadians with the best value for their tax dollars. The savings that we generate will be reinvested back into the Army to ensure that we have the means to respond to missions outlined in the Canada First Defence Strategy. CA Renewal is also about establishing a culture of efficiency and innovation in the Army, where soldiers and civilian staff at all levels contribute their ideas as part of the Army Team.

This intent of this site is to provide soldiers and the public with information on our renewal effort, share our successes, and providing a mechanism for people to send us their ideas. There will be interviews with Army personnel leading our CA Renewal initiatives posted on this site regularly, and as always, readers are welcome to send us their feedback. You can use this link to send us your input on CA Renewal, including ideas for new initiatives. If you are viewing this site from the Defence Wide Area Network (DWAN), you can also learn more about the CA Renewal Program by visiting the DWAN site.

CA Renewal also ties into the greater umbrella of Defence Renewal, a comprehensive Department of National Defence wide effort to minimize inefficiency, streamline business processes, and maximize the operational effectiveness of the Defence Team. The CA is an active partner in Defence Renewal, contributing significantly to our collective efforts to transform the way we do business. To learn more about Defence Renewal, visit the website.

Canadian Army Ethics Programme

The Canadian Army Ethics Programme (CAEP) includes all professional development training which supports the Army ethos. The CAEP believes that the soldier ethos remains a living spirit — one that finds full expression through values, beliefs, expectations, and conduct. A healthy ethical environment is essential to the effectiveness of the Army’s operations.

A healthy ethical environment is fundamental to the military ethos because it:

  • provides soldiers with the ability to know what is right
  • allows soldiers to display moral courage
  • helps Army leaders accept their responsibility to distinguish between right and wrong

The CAEP supports the existing chain of command and is a command and leadership responsibility. Commanders must try to include ethics awareness and dialogue in all their activities.

The Army's ethics community consists of Divisional Ethics Coordinator (DEC) and Unit Ethics Coordinators (UEC) who have the following responsibilities:

  • Administering ethics training
  • Reporting on ethics awareness and dialogue
  • Ensuring that personnel possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform their duties to the highest ethical standards

Training Materials

All CAEP training materials are now available in the G1 Army Concepts section of the Army Collaboration Information Management System (ACIMS) (for personnel with access to the Department of National Defence’s internal network).
